The Center's Educator Disabilities Awareness Program is designed for anyone who works or plans to work in an educational setting. The training program helps educators challenge pre-conceptions and develop strategies for the 15%-20% of their students (and often more) who have some kind of disability. Program participants will be better able to create safe and comfortable environments to maximize learning opportunities for all students, without and with disabilities.
The educator training program has been conducted for students at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, senior corps and staff at City Year (Boston), and site directors at BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life). Upcoming trainings include incoming and second-year corps members at Teach for America (Boston).
Sessions are tailored to each group and last from 1 1/2 - 3 hours, which can be split to accommodate schedules. Two or three sessions can be conducted per day.
Fees depend upon the number and length of sessions and travel involved. As with all other Center programs, the educators awareness training can be implemented anywhere without modification.
